Shocks

Shocks – A large majority of shocks on R/C vehicles will be filled with silicone oil and will require maintenance with the internal components. A squeaky or springy shock is normally a good sign that is time to look at your shocks and maintain them. Things to check inside the shock : shock cap bladder is in the shock cap and doesn’t have any holes, fluid colour and level, ensure the shock shaft is not bent or scored, the o-rings in the bottom of the shock body aren’t swollen or cut and double check that the shock piston attached to the shaft isn’t broken or the hardware holding it to the shock shaft is still snug. Replace any parts that are damaged and add some o-ring grease (Avid, Green Slime or 1UP Racing), to the o-rings in the bottom of the shock body. This would also be a great time to change the shock oil viscosity as well to get the performance of your R/C to where you want it. If you are not sure the shock oil weight to use please check out our “Racing Setup” page or “Manuals / Exploded Views” page to get more information.

Pro Tip –
If you want to take your shocks performance to the next level taking some extra time to clean and polish a chrome shock shaft will drastically reduce the amount of friction between the shock shaft and o-rings. This will help improve the feel of the shock by not having to overcome the initial force to go through the friction of the shaft and o-rings. Which will allow you to have a better idea when tuning the shock package (changing oil viscosity or hole count and size of holes in the shock piston). We recommend to use the Gravity RC Polish or any metal polish, with the use of a rotary tool and a microfiber towel to complete the process.
